Important: 38% DA Is Effective from October

The 38% rate should not be described as already payable for every salary month before October 2026.

The Government order specifies an effective date of 1 October 2026. Employees should therefore check their applicable salary period and official pay bill before assuming that the revised rate has already been credited.

How to Calculate DA at 38%

The basic DA calculation is:

DA = Basic Pay × 38 ÷ 100

Example

Suppose an employee's eligible Basic Pay is ₹30,000.

Basic Pay₹30,000
DA Rate38%
DA Amount₹11,400
Basic + DA₹41,400

This is a simplified DA example only. Actual salary may include HRA, medical allowance, other allowances, deductions and other service-specific components.

Who Is Covered by the DA Order?

Dearness Allowance orders issued by the West Bengal Finance Department generally cover eligible State Government employees and may also extend to categories such as employees of specified Government-aided institutions, statutory bodies, local bodies and other organisations according to the terms of the official order.

Pensioners and family pensioners may receive the corresponding Dearness Relief subject to the provisions of the notification.

Employees should verify the exact applicability of the order for their department or institution before relying on the rate.

How Will the New DA Affect Salary?

A higher DA rate increases the DA component of an employee's monthly salary. The exact increase depends primarily on the employee's eligible Basic Pay.

For example, at a 38% DA rate:

Basic PayDA at 38%
₹20,000₹7,600
₹30,000₹11,400
₹40,000₹15,200
₹50,000₹19,000
₹60,000₹22,800

These figures are mathematical examples and should not be treated as individual salary statements.

What About West Bengal DA Arrears?

Historical DA arrears are a separate matter from the latest regular DA revision.

In March 2026, the West Bengal Finance Department also issued separate notifications concerning DA/DR arrears relating to the period from April 2008 to December 2019.

Employees should not automatically combine those arrear notifications with the latest 38% DA revision because they relate to different periods and Government orders.

Does the 7th State Pay Commission Change This DA Rate?

The West Bengal 7th State Pay Commission has been constituted, but no final revised pay structure, fitment factor or new pay matrix has yet been officially implemented.

Therefore, the latest DA notification and the ongoing 7th Pay Commission process should currently be treated as separate developments unless the Government issues a future order linking them.
